This policy explains what information thaifairbanks.com (“Thai Fairbanks”, “we”) collects when you visit, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Server logs. Like most websites, our web server records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page you requested and the time. We use it to keep the site running and secure.
- Poll votes. When you vote in the Best Thai in Fairbanks 2026 poll, we store your answer, any write-in text you type, and your IP address. The IP address is used only to allow one vote per person per poll and to block abuse. Write-ins may be published in aggregate (for example, “a write-in for X”). We delete stored poll IP addresses after the poll results are published.
- Forms. If you contact us through our Contact form or the Advertise With Us form, we store what you enter (such as your name, email, message and, for ad inquiries, your business and phone) and use it only to reply to you.
- Weather widget. The Fairbanks weather shown in our header is fetched by our server from Open-Meteo. Your browser does not contact Open-Meteo, and no information about you is sent to it. Maps. Our maps load map tiles from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers, so your browser connects to them and they receive your IP address, as with any web request. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Location (“Near me”)
Our maps and restaurant list have an optional Near me / Sort by distance button. Your browser asks for your location only when you tap it. The distance math happens on your device: your location is never sent to our server, stored, saved in a cookie or shared with analytics or advertisers. If you tap a Directions link, your starting point is included in the Google Maps link you open, and Google’s privacy policy applies there. As with any map view, OpenStreetMap tiles load for the area shown on the map.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. WordPress may set cookies needed for the site to function. Our Best Thai poll sets a cookie (and a matching setting in your browser’s local storage) for up to one year to remember that you already voted in each category; it contains no personal information. The poll also uses Cloudflare Turnstile for spam protection, which checks that votes come from a real browser and receives technical information such as your IP address (see Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum). If we add advertising or analytics services (see below), those services may set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though the poll may not remember that you voted.
Advertising
We show ads to support the site. Today these are our own “Advertise here” notices. In the future we may use third-party ad networks such as Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. We will update this policy before enabling any ad network.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics (through Google Site Kit) to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are popular. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages visited and general location. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Our footer shows an anonymous visitor count that uses no cookies or local storage: to count each browser once per day we keep only a one-way hash of your IP address and browser type, made with a secret that changes every day (we never store your IP address), and long term we keep only daily totals.
Affiliate links
Some links go to partners such as Viator and GetYourGuide. When you click them, those sites may set cookies to record that you came from Thai Fairbanks, so we can earn a commission. Their own privacy policies apply on their sites. See our affiliate disclosure.
Links to other sites
Restaurant pages link to ordering services, maps and review sites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help run the site (such as our web host) or when required by law.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Your choices
You can ask us to delete information you sent through our forms, or ask what we hold about you, by contacting us through our Contact page.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date at the top.
